Blog Tour Book Review - Summer's Runaway by Rebecca L Marsh

Summer's Runwayby Rebecca L Marsh

My rating: ★★★★★

Goodreads 5.00/5

Genre: Womens fiction

I was kindly given the wonderful opportunity to read Summer’s Runaway by the talented author Rebecca L Marsh, as a pre-release in return for my honest review.

Publication date 13th April 2023.

Available on kindle and Paperback.

This is the second book of the princess island series but can also be read as a stand alone novel.

Synopsis

Can Hallie hide for the entire summer?

Three and a half years ago, Hallie had a happy home with a loving mother, a father she adored, and doting grandparents she loved to spend summers with. All of that changed when her father’s career in the Army took him to the Middle East where he was killed in action. Hallie never gave much thought to her mother’s angry insistence that her grandparents had pushed him into the Army. But his death caused that anger to seep into her heart. Nothing could convince her to forgive them or ever visit their island home again … or so she thought.

But when a threat arises at home that her mother refuses to believe is real, twelve-year-old Hallie finds herself running away from home to escape. She knows a safe place where she can hide, but she’ll have to go back to the island, regardless of her feelings.

Hallie doesn’t know how long she can stay hidden or if she will be forced to see her grandparents again, but it’s a risk she must take. No matter what else happens, she will never forgive her grandparents for her father’s death, and she can’t go home … not until the end of summer.

My Review

This is the second book of the Princess Island series, and I couldn’t wait to get stuck in as I thoroughly enjoyed my previous encounter of island life.

In the first book of the series, Where hope is found, island life gave you this warm, happy, close-knit feeling, and throughout this book, Summer’s Runway, Rebecca manages to keep this alive. It is set a few years later and was lovely to revisit characters and places on the beautiful island. As I began reading, I was drawn back in and felt like I had never left.

Summer’s Runaway is filled with love and hope with the power of family and friendship shining through. The characters are strong and loveable, each still have their own back story and good level of continuity is maintained with the first book of the series. Some difficult subjects are covered sensitively but Rebecca manages to capture the emotions perfectly. It’s a story that flows at a nice steady pace and leaves you wanting to read more.

This book could be read as a stand-alone novel and would be thoroughly enjoyable, but I would recommend that you read Where hope is found first,(find my review here) this would help you understand the characters' lives and emotions better and I feel you would then get more enjoyment from Summer’s Runaway.

My question is, will there be another book in the series? I certainly think there is room for another and would love to revisit island life again. Rebecca L Marsh please can we have more form princess island.
