<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Genre: Women’s Literary Fiction<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Maureen Fry and The Angel of The North was first published in 2022. <o:p></o:p></span><span style="font-family: georgia;">The finale to a moving trilogy.</span><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><u>Synopsis</u><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Ten years ago, Harold Fry set off on his epic journey on
foot to save a friend. But the story doesn't end there.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Now his wife, Maureen, has her own pilgrimage to make.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Maureen Fry has settled into the quiet life she now shares with her husband
Harold after his iconic walk across England. Now, ten years later, an
unexpected message from the North disturbs her equilibrium again, and this time
it is Maureen's turn to make her own journey.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">But Maureen is not like Harold. She struggles to bond with strangers, and the
landscape she crosses has changed radically. She has little sense of what
she'll find at the end of the road. All she knows is that she must get there.</span></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><o:p></o:p></span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><u>My Review</u><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was gifted this book for Christmas and having read, The Unlikely
Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and The Love Song of Miss Queenie Henessy I was
excited to get started on Maureen’s journey.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">At first as I started reading all I could see was a
difficult, angry, rude women and quite frankly I did not like her. She was the
total opposite to Harold and I did wonder if she would complete her journey. As
the book progressed, I softened to Maureen, as her loss and unhappiness were exposed
and I found myself hoping that she finds a way to get some closure and manages to find
herself - I believe she did. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book although short was packed full with emotion, from grief
and guilt and all the suffering that can come from it to friendship and love.
It certainly highlighted for me, that we should not judge a book by its cover as
we don’t know what that person is going through on the inside.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">If you have stumbled across Maureen Fry and think mmm I
fancy a read, don’t bother until you have read the first two. I do not think
you would have a clue what was going on if you read it as a stand alone novel
but as part of the Trilogy I works perfectly.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I found it a very enjoyable but moving read, thank you Rachel Joyce for taking us on
Maureen’s Journey – I did not even realise that I needed this book! <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>

than Bertie Lovell, the boy who slayed dragons for her when they were children.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>My Review </b><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Josie
Bonham has done it again; <a href="https://amzn.eu/d/0mfeNoJ" target="_blank">The Rake’s Rescued Bride</a> is very well written and from
the moment I started reading I could not put the book down. It has a fast-paced
plot which kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen. It was
packed full to the brim with suspense and the threat of impending danger. Twisting
amongst the fast-paced plot you then get Lucy and Bertie’s chemistry, which was
quite slow paced, making it feel like we were dancing round the edge of a potential
romance in the making. Will they or wont they end up together – I wont spoil it
for you.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">If
you have not read any of the previous books in the series, don’t worry, it
would work as a stand - alone novel, although, I enjoy the fact that we revisit
characters from previous books, and think it adds a familiarity and depth that
just enhances my enjoyment of each book. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Overall
if you enjoy the regency period and love a romance then you should love this.
This book was certainly one of those books that you want to keep reading to
find out what happens but as the pages pass by, you suddenly realise you don’t
want it to end.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Thank
you, Josie Bonham for letting me read and review your wonderful book. Yet again
you have created a thoroughly enjoyable, hard to put down read. I certainly
look forward to your next book.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

Lots of characters were introduced quite quickly because of the party and I felt like I couldn’t keep up with who was who. This made me unsure who was relevant, who I needed to remember and I felt confused by it all. </div><div style="text-align: center;">At times it left me wondering if I could be bothered to keep reading!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">As the story progressed (around half way through) the main characters became established and the story started to flow better, became easier to read. That’s when I felt things really got going, it meant that I wanted to keep reading, wanted to find out what was going to happen and I even struggled to put the book down.</div><div style="text-align: center;">A sudden surprise confession to the murder put a new spin on things, not all was what it seemed and there was going to be some twists, this made it more exciting and it went from, can I be bothered to read this to, I've got five minutes I can just squeeze another chapter in. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I certainly didn’t predict the outcome, In fact it left me pleasantly surprised.</div></span><span style="font-family: georgia;"><div style="text-align: center;"> Although, I’m left wondering about some of characters, what happened to Nell, Alex and Rupert and did Caius get back with Héloise? For me I think it just needed a few more questions answering before it finished. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Its taken me a while to write this review as I could not truly decide on what rating to give. The slow, character heavy start put me off and I wanted to give three stars but, it felt unfair as once it got going it became an enjoyable, unpredictable story, and that's why I've settled for four stars. </div><div style="text-align: center;">This debut novel has certainly put Charlotte Vassell on my radar and I will be keeping an eye out for more.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I would like to thank Charlotte Vassell, Faber and Faber Ltd and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this debut novel. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></span><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div> Annette Revitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18334723891446484364noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595212198589489399.post-37967399309660402082023-07-19T12:21:00.218+00:002023-07-19T14:20:25.298+00:00eBooks, Kindle Unlimited and FREE trials!<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">If eBooks are your thing then look no further, this post will give you some information on Kindle Unlimited.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3pLk1Aw" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="660" data-original-width="1500" height="141" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsUko-f_OG5d5AsVjxViqaUzUeZCCUJZBhcA8hCn2cIkyDC5zocegG29pY8W1KM34O3MG5qlotUhsBYuTCaj6kFaloFPilRG1q4IyE-GbhdKiZLrpADGbu26fx_6jwFn8IGPamFKMK78A9gFEKmbZzUd7efWQyro92H0F4KymwgIL5wwd9x17k6o1AD7xD/s320/kindle%20books%20image.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>What is the Kindle Unlimited?</b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Kindle Unlimited is a service provided by Amazon it</span><span style="font-family: georgia;"> gives you the opportunity to explore and read books, audiobooks, and popular magazines on any device. </span><span style="font-family: georgia;">It's a bit like a library but without the late penalty fees!</span><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Kindle Unlimited </span><span style="font-family: georgia;">contains a variety of genres and authors — you will find everything from romance to science fiction, crime fiction to fantasy even biography's and Autobiography's.</span></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">You can browse the current Kindle Unlimited library before deciding whether to subscribe.</span></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><div style="text-align: center;">If you already have an Amazon account, all you need to do is sign in. I new it was going to be emotional, which is why I waited but was I prepared for how emotional … the answer is a definite no.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I debated my three stars rating for some time, and wondered if I was being fair. It is certainly not aimed at the subject of this book, for I feel the author has covered this difficult subject with a lot of sensitivity and realism. The love and grief pour out of the pages and consume you. If it was based on this alone it would give it the five stars. My rating takes into consideration the style in which it is written. Which I will try and explain more of now.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The first part of the book was an emotional rollercoaster that definitely required tissues, I needed to know what was going to happen and only put it down to regain my composure before starting again. Then all of a sudden, I was confused, completely thrown by what I was reading. I had just heard one court verdict now I hear the alternative! I suddenly had two stories playing out side by side (I had to reread the previous chapter to check I didn’t miss anything) it was an interesting move from the author playing out the lives from both verdicts and Claire maintained the strong characters and moving story, tissues were still required but I had to think about which side I was reading and didn’t really enjoy having the two paths intertwined. It then ended with a disappointing last chapter, I feel there was to much that was unexplained and that I was missing a big part of the characters lives. How did we get back to Max and Pip? What happened to Blair and how is Lars still in the mix? I can see what was trying to be achieved but for me personally I don’t think it really worked, too much information was missing.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Going back to the subject. It was a difficult subject to read about let alone one to write about, a situation I wish no parent to be in but know that in reality lots are faced with. My heart goes out to Claire, and other parents facing these difficult life changing moments. I cannot imagen what Claire went through and the horrors she revisited to write this book; she is a very talented author who captured the characters lives through the entire book in a very unforgettable emotional way. I would like to thank Claire for taking me on this heart wrenching journey, it was such a thought provoking, moving novel that will stay with me for sometime.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Below you will find a free link (to an external website) that offers a preview off this emotional story. and a half years ago, Hallie had a happy home with a loving mother, a father
she adored, and doting grandparents she loved to spend summers with. All of
that changed when her father’s career in the Army took him to the Middle East
where he was killed in action. Hallie never gave much thought to her mother’s
angry insistence that her grandparents had pushed him into the Army. But his
death caused that anger to seep into her heart. Nothing could convince her to
forgive them or ever visit their island home again … or so she thought.</span><br />

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Georgia",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: Georgia;">In the first book of the series, <a href="https://amzn.to/43HuXOv" target="_blank">Where hope is found</a>, island life gave you this warm, happy, close-knit feeling,
and throughout this book, <a href="https://amzn.to/41ewb24" target="_blank">Summer’s Runway</a>, Rebecca manages to keep this alive.
It is set a few years later and was lovely to revisit characters and places on
the beautiful island. As I began reading, I was drawn back in and felt like I
had never left. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

shining through. The characters are strong and loveable, each still have their
own back story and good level of continuity is maintained with the first book
of the series. Some difficult subjects are covered sensitively but Rebecca
manages to capture the emotions perfectly. It’s a story that flows at a nice steady
pace and leaves you wanting to read more.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

understand the characters' lives and emotions better and I feel you would then get
more enjoyment from Summer’s Runaway.</span></div>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Georgia",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: Georgia;">My

is about to turn ninety. She doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just
wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades.<br />
<br />
But to do that she must find her daughter Alys - the only person who can help
to put things right.<br />
<br />
And when she finds her - <span class="a-text-italic"><i>if </i></span>she
does - she risks betraying granddaughter Elin. Who is far less forgiving of the
past, with its hurts and secrets and lies. Meanwhile Grace's <span class="a-text-italic"><i>great</i></span>-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all
these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and
keeping secrets of her own.<br />
<br />
All families have their problems. And most of them get resolved. But Grace's
problem is thirty years old. And she doesn't have time on her side.<br />
<br />
So is it too late for her to make peace? Or is reconciliation still within
reach?</span><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

and knowing how much I enjoyed <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Us-Three-Ruth-Jones/dp/1787632253/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1663327166&sr=8-1">us three</a> and never Greener I jumped at the
chance. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Untold-Ruth-Jones/dp/178763387X/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1663326708&sr=8-1">Untold love</a> is similar
to <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Us-Three-Ruth-Jones/dp/1787632253/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1663327166&sr=8-1">us three</a> in that it jumps between characters viewpoints, each chapter is
from one of the characters perspectives, it flows wonderfully, right from the
word go you understand how each character feels, you get drawn in to their family
and feel this pull to keep reading to find out what is going to happen.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">It's a very easy read, at
first, I was unsure where it was going to take me but, as the story unfolded, I
stopped trying to second guess what was going to happen and just followed the
family’s life. With every word you read, you felt all the love and hate that was
being thrown around, I was drawn in and felt as if I was a part of it. This
book oozes love, hate, forgiveness and loss, a real mixture of emotions, it
just constantly keeps you wanting more. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">My one criticism of this
book would have to be when Welsh dialect is used in places. I absolutely loved that
it was used as it was all in keeping with the characters but, I had no idea at
times what it meant and had to look it up to translate it. Maybe a page at the
back/front with translation would be useful. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Ruth Jones is definitely
an author I will be keeping an eye out for in the future.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"></p><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Headstrong Grace Bamford is determined to remain
unwed and keep her independence. Which means interesting, marriageable men are
best avoided. Her classical studies and philanthropy are more important to her
than a husband and a lot safer.</span></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><div style="text-align: center;">Angus Medley's life is turned upside down when he unexpectedly inherits a
dukedom. He is wrenched from the career he loves as an Edinburgh advocate to
take up responsibility for the Duchy of Evesham and the people relying on it
for their livelihoods.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Grace rescues Angus from a knife-wielding attacker outside the London orphanage
she helps to run. He dismisses the attack as a failed robbery but Grace
suspects foul play. Is someone from Angus's past trying to kill him? Grace
offers to help him investigate, concerned for his safety, even though it means
spending time with the most attractive man she has ever met.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Marriage is the last thing on Angus's mind as he grapples with his new
responsibilities and his hidden enemy, until he falls in love with Grace. Will
Grace find the courage to follow her heart?</div><o:p></o:p></span><p></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><u>My Review</u></span></div>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was so excited when Josie Bonham contacted me and offered a
copy of <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B5F99W37/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i4">The Dukes Bluestocking</a> in return for my honest review. Having read the
first three books in <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reluctant-Brides-Regency-Collection-Books-ebook/dp/B09NS4RKP9/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2YZ3XKW8DVKK8&keywords=josie+bonham%2C+the+reluctant+brides+series&qid=1656590527&s=digital-text&sprefix=the+reluctant+bride%2Cdigital-text%2C81&sr=1-7">the reluctant bride’s series</a>, I could not wait to get
stuck in, a little nervous to see if it lived up to the previous books. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Well, I was not disappointed, this is a well written regency
period romance, I fell in love with the new Duke, loved that I already knew
some of the characters, it felt like I had an advantage of knowing some of them
already and this filled me with anticipation as to what was in store for them.
It was great to have the addition of some new characters and was disappointed when
ever I had to stop reading and return to normal life! Picking up children from
school really does hinder when you’re engrossed. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book could be read and enjoyed as a stand - alone novel,
and would be loved by any romance reader but, as I have said previously, if you
read the others in the series, you would have a better knowledge and
understanding of some of the characters which, would only enhance your
enjoyment of each book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book had everything you needed, strong minded women,
the touch of danger amidst the backdrop of two people falling in love, the duke
struggling with his new life and the will they won’t they manage to get
together. What more can you want!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">It was a thoroughly enjoyable read, that had me on the edge
of my seat. <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B5F99W37/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i4">The Dukes Bluestocking</a> is the type of book that you’re itching to
read and get finished so you know what happens but, as you’re reading you see
the pages thinning out and you know you’re coming to the end, and that makes
you a little sad to be leaving the loveable characters behind. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Thank you, Josie Bonham for allowing me to read and review
your wonderful book. I’m already looking forward to the next in the series.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is Rebecca’s Forth novel, which was published February
2022. <br />Its available as paperback or kindle.</span></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Something unexpected changes the course of Jillian’s life.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">After witnessing her sister’s murder, she’s been tormented
by survivor’s guilt. Her desperate longing for a child compounds her grief,
while endless fertility treatments weigh down her soul.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Just when hope seems beyond her grasp, her dream of
motherhood comes true. All Jillian’s pain is washed away and joy fills her
heart.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">But when someone shows up threatening to take it all away,
Jillian must choose between holding on to her newfound happiness or giving it
all up for the sake of someone she loves.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><u><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">My Review </span></u></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is the second book I have read by this amazing
author and what can I say, one word would be wow. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I struggled to put the book down, Within the first couple of
chapters I was hooked. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://amzn.to/44kWFjX" target="_blank">Remember The Butterfly</a> was wonderfully written, the story
covers some difficult subjects such as </span><span style="font-family: georgia;">grief, </span><span style="font-family: georgia;">infertility, IVF, and domestic
abuse, it’s all crammed in but all written in such a sensitive way. So much heartache,
guilt, love and sacrifice just oozed out of the pages sucking me in, what a whirlwind of emotions this book
threw at me. It even had the tears flowing.</span></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Rebecca wrote this book giving two sides of the story, and
when I got to part two, I was a bit worried to be leaving Jillian’s story
behind, I couldn’t see where it was going or how another character would fit in, but soon I was wrapped up in Keeley’s life wondering how either
of these desperate characters were going to resolve their problems or would
neither of them get a happy ever after. <br /></span><span style="font-family: georgia;">I just had to keep reading, I needed to
find out.</span></div>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all the emotions that
came with it, but, feel that it should come with a warning …. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Get Your Tissues ready! <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I would not read this book without a box of tissues to hand,
and although it sends you on an emotional rollercoaster it was a thoroughly compelling read.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

The story of their lives is told, as it switches between each character and jumps back and forth in time. To start with I found this difficult and wondered if I was going to enjoy it, but after about 20 chapters it had me hooked. The story of their lives unfolded slowly and I was drawn in, felt like I was apart of their journey. Leaving me in a whirlwind of emotions, crossing my fingers that things would work out and not wanting to put the book down.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">At the beginning I found Angie’s Scottish accent a problem, I found it hard to read, sometimes I was having to re read bits, but, as time passed it became easier and I became accustomed to her, I feel that it actually gave more depth to her character.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Throughout the book, the writer covers some difficult subjects, but all is done in a very knowledgeable easy to read way. have not been as active on my blog over the last few months, this partly being
down to home-schooling. Home-schooling seems to have taken over my kitchen table
and our daily lives! So, I thought seeing as the only books I seem to have read
recently have been children’s books and the fact we are celebrating World Book
Day from home (Home schooling a five-year-old who is dressed up and just wants
to play rather than work is quite the challenge.) I thought I would join in and
write a review of one of my daughter’s favourites, and I have to admit one of my favourites to.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

when we feed him, and when he gets to the park none of the other little

Pregnancy and now home-schooling seem to have caused quite a reading slump for me which I’ve found hard to get out of, that is until I started reading this book. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Josie Bonham has yet again produced a delightful, well written book set in the regency period. It has a fantastic Christmas feel to it and I struggled to put it down as I needed to know what was going to happen next. It was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. The characters were loveable and easy to relate to which made it an easy read.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">It is the third book of the reluctant bride’s series but, could be read as a stand alone novel. Although I would recommend reading the other two in the series first as you will have a better understanding of some of the characters and this helps with the overall enjoyment of book.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was sad when I came to the end of the book but it leaves me looking forward to the next in the series. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Thank you, Josie Bonham for allowing me to read and review your wonderful book. Reduced to ashes. But in a story like this, nothing is as it seems.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><u>My Review</u> </span></h3><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was given a copy of this book as a pre-release in return for my honest review. I have never come across the author before and when I was given the blurb about the book it really intrigued me. The moment I saw the book in the flesh, I wanted to start reading, the whole idea of being able to start reading the book from either side fascinated me, almost made it exciting. Not sure how this would work as audio or e-book but very affective as hardback. I must also point out the clever title <a href="https://amzn.to/3lniUhO">337</a>! Works well with the back to front thing going on.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">In this book the author covers some difficult subjects, like mental health, it was well written making it an easy read despite some of the subjects covered. I enjoyed it from Start to finish, I can’t say I was hooked or that I could not put the book down but I did want to know what was going to happen. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I love the whole concept behind the book but feel I can only give 4 stars as I wasn’t totally gripped and I’m left wondering what actually happened. I’ve said before I like things to be finished off, whether that’s good or bad I don’t mind I just don’t like being left with questions, but to be fair, that is the whole point of the book……. nothing is as it seems, and it certainly does this well.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">My one big question I’m left wondering is if I started reading the book from the other side would the beginning be different and make me feel differently about the end. Unless I read it again doing exactly this, I guess I will never know, maybe it will get the better of me one day and I will have to try it.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Since reading and writing this review, I have been contacted by the publishers and asked to quote this sentence</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">“Please note the double-ended upside-down opening for this book is available in books ordered in hard copy from UK booksellers only.”</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I don’t know about you guys but this quote answers my above questions about how it would work with an e-book or audio book. It clearly doesn’t work. I have to say I am a little disappointed as the start either side thing for me was one of the main selling points, it made it exciting and if that is taken out of the equation, It puts a dampener on the whole thing, I guess the double sided thing does not affect the story as a whole after all. This book has really left me with mixed feelings and I’m not sure if I would recommend it or not, I’m really sat on the fence……… </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Here is a link to M Jonathan Lee’s book <a href="https://amzn.to/3lniUhO">337</a>. What inspired you to start writing and when did you first decide to write your debut novel?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I’ve always written stories, even back in school. I’d managed to write some short stories but had never finished a novel. I always seemed to run out of steam around the halfway mark. But Art and Soul was the first story for which I had a clear vision of the ending and I think that was what carried me to the finish line. I started writing it in the autumn of 2015 and had a first draft finished at the start of 2016.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>If you finished the first draft in 2016, how come you did not publish until April 2020?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I spent almost three years submitting Art and Soul to literary agents and to publishers who take direct submissions. After many encouraging rejections, I decided to publish it myself. I then worked with a brilliant editor, proof-reader, cover designer and formatter before publication in April 2020. I'm really pleased I went ahead and published it because lots of readers have told me how much happiness it brought them in what's been a difficult year and that's much better than the book sitting forgotten on my computer.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>I have to agree, it would have been such a waste to have been lost on a computer. Where do you normally write, do you have a favourite spot or do you follow any routine?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I write whenever I can find some peace and quiet, which is harder than it sounds when looking after two small children and working part time from home. To finish my second book, I took to writing from 9pm to 1am for a 6-week period during lockdown (I don’t recommend this, but it was the only way to get it done). I prefer to write sitting on our comfy sofa, but often it’s occupied, so I have to decamp to anywhere I can sit and type without being distracted.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>I know where you are coming from, children and work are not a great mix as they always want something at a critical stage when you would rather be left alone. </b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Did any of your characters reflect yourself or anyone else that you know?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I think, subconsciously, all the characters in Art and Soul are made up of little pieces of people I’ve met. I’d love to think I would be as capable in a crisis as Becky, but I doubt I would be when put to the test. But I certainly share her love of cake! </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>I share the love of cake to, there is just something so pleasing about a good bit of cake! </b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>After reading Art and Soul, I had a little browse on your website and came across the cake recipes that featured in the book, what gave you this idea? (I absolutely love it by the way)</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">The cakes were all in the book before I thought of making them. I’d finished my second draft of the novel and was submitting it to agents. I knew I’d be waiting a while to hear back from them, so I started blogging to stop myself obsessively refreshing my email. I’ve always enjoyed baking and decided to include recipes on my blog. This is what led to the idea of baking all the cakes which appear in Art and Soul and putting the recipes on my website so when I was eventually published (I was optimistic!) readers could easily find the recipes for the cakes which feature in the story if they wanted to try them. <br /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>It’s a brilliant idea that I absolutely love. So, is baking something you do in your spare time when you’re not writing or reading?</b></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Qfsxu6y2lQrPiFqBZbkHAGmUN94qi4oh5AWNddQROD7_ys8o1_-c-epZun8_q2olww-GwZP-3_BoLR9DzNPlaRNPJKIX8GsSjXcD-07E5HkljF_VSdXsrb2mHAEvzUrJSioxw0nMLofs/s2048/Old+school+sponge+cake+with+white+icing+and+multicoloured+sprinkes+clairehuston+Art+and+Soul.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Qfsxu6y2lQrPiFqBZbkHAGmUN94qi4oh5AWNddQROD7_ys8o1_-c-epZun8_q2olww-GwZP-3_BoLR9DzNPlaRNPJKIX8GsSjXcD-07E5HkljF_VSdXsrb2mHAEvzUrJSioxw0nMLofs/s320/Old+school+sponge+cake+with+white+icing+and+multicoloured+sprinkes+clairehuston+Art+and+Soul.jpg" width="320" /></a></b></span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">It’s the one “leisure” activity the kids will happily leave me alone to get on with, which is one of the reasons I do so much of it! I do find it relaxing and it’s terrific to have something delicious to share and enjoy at the end of it.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>How do you get away with the kids not wanting to help? My daughter loves a baking session with me, she seems to have a radar telling her I’m going to bake! She has a thing for sprinkles to so we will be trying the sponge cake with white icing and sprinkles at some point. </b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Baking is pretty much the only activity my boys let me get on with almost uninterrupted! I think they've realised that if they stay out of my way they'll get to taste the results more quickly 😀 When they're a bit older, I'll be delighted to let them help me all they want.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>So now we have learnt you have a love for cake, if you were not baking and where reading, what genre would you normally like to read and do you have any favourite authors?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I’ve always been a big fan of fantasy fiction and sci-fi. In fantasy, a current favourite author is V.E. Schwab. I’ve enjoyed all her books. In sci-fi, I’d heartily recommend all Becky Chambers’ books. She’s a wonderful writer. I’m also partial to a retelling and stories featuring myths. In that area, Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles and Circe are brilliant.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>All authors I’ve never heard of, that will be googled and no doubt added to my ever-growing list. What are you currently reading, are you enjoying it?</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia; text-align: left;">I just picked up Susana Clarke’s long-anticipated second novel, Piranesi, from the local library today! I’m really looking forward to it as it sounds like the sort of combination of weird and wonderful, I usually enjoy.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1526622432&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="105" height="160" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1526622432&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" width="105" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: georgia; text-align: left;"><br /></span><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Do you have anything in the pipeline for the future that you can tell us about? </b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">My second novel, another contemporary romance, is currently out on submission with agents. It’s another uplifting love story, this time set in a beautiful little village in the Cotswolds. If the submissions don’t go anywhere, I plan to self-publish it in spring 2021.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>That’s a nice little teaser for us….. The Cotswolds is a beautiful part of the country that I have visited many times, I like it when books are set in places that are familiar, it brings a little reality to the fiction. I look forward to reading it.</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><b style="font-family: georgia;">Now just for a bit of fun, if you had to pick one what would it be and why?</b></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Book / Ebook</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is such a hard question! Both are great, depending on when and where you’ll be reading. If I really have to choose, I think I’ll go with physical books, but if you ask me tomorrow, I may change my mind.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Hardback / Paperback</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Paperback. Hardbacks are beautiful and have a real sense of permanency but can be so difficult to read in bed, carry around and find shelf space for.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Classic literature / Modern fiction</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">If I had to pick one to take to my desert island library, I’d go for the classics (while crying about leaving modern fiction behind). I read a lot of classic titles for my English degree but haven’t had a chance to return to them since and it’d be nice to read them again and finally read the books I didn’t get to. Plus, I couldn’t leave Shakespeare behind.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Bath / Shower</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">An easy one! Shower because I don’t have time to relax in the bath.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Morning person / Night owl</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I’m not dreadful in the morning, but I think I’m more of a night owl.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>City / Country</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">City. I’ve lived in London and a few large towns and while I know it can be noisy and dirty, there’s always so much to see and do and the sense of endless possibilities makes the city an exciting place. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>Tea / Coffee</b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">A nice cup of tea. I can drink coffee, but only after I’ve filled it with so much milk and sugar that it’s barely recognisable as coffee anymore. It’s also delicious as a cake flavour.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b>A little bit about the author<br /></b></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"></span></p><div style="text-align: center;"><div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm1L3nn6cneNNNh_J1OfRgXTipTGc56neUz-CeVolKB7ti0tTndenFXYyAIz4VS5U4A4miROPhdyKsJMj5Qct-8KE6Iz_ejq4anch96iKTZ0jj-AT7HeLPEKP4pLEDdihX1uRvLnH-KPg/s1536/Claire+Huston+author+photo+2020.png" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="1152" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm1L3nn6cneNNNh_J1OfRgXTipTGc56neUz-CeVolKB7ti0tTndenFXYyAIz4VS5U4A4miROPhdyKsJMj5Qct-8KE6Iz_ejq4anch96iKTZ0jj-AT7HeLPEKP4pLEDdihX1uRvLnH-KPg/w240-h320/Claire+Huston+author+photo+2020.png" width="240" /></a></div></span><div style="text-align: left;"><b style="font-family: georgia;">Claire Huston lives in Warwickshire with her husband and two children. It was supposed to be the perfect summer getaway--until they met Severine, the girl next door. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">For Kate Channing, Severine was an unwelcome presence, her inscrutable beauty undermining the close-knit group's loyalties amid the already simmering tensions. And after a huge altercation on the last night of the holiday, Kate knew nothing would ever be the same. There are some things you can't forgive, and there are some people you can't forget, like Severine, who was never seen again. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Now, a decade later, the case is reopened when Severine's body is found in the well behind the farmhouse. Questioned along with her friends, Kate stands to lose everything she's worked so hard to achieve as suspicion mounts around her. Desperate to resolve her own shifting memories and fearful she will be forever bound to the woman whose presence still haunts her, Kate finds herself buried under layers of deception with no one to set her free.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></p><h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><u>My Review</u> </span></h3><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I received <a href="https://amzn.to/3dS37FN">The French Girl</a> via my monthly book subscription and was intrigued as I it was another new author for me. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">The story is told through the eyes of the main character Kate Channing, and as the book evolves so do all the characters. They are all strong and well developed. I was captivated throughout and although there are not many twists and turns in this book its written in a way that just keeps you guessing all the way through.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is a slow burning who done it, full of suspense, with a hint of romance. If you prefer something fast paced this book is not for you.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I thoroughly enjoyed this book and from the first chapter felt compelled to find out who was covering up what, who had committed the murder, are Kate's friends who they say they are and will she finally get the man she didn't know she wanted or needed! It was packed with friendship and shifting alliances making for a very gripping read.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was a little surprised by how it ended, I will not go into detail as I do not wish to spoil it for others but it was a perfectly plausible ending that did finish the book of nicely. </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Would I read another Lexie Elliott novel, my answer would be yes this was a wonderful debut novel that sets the bar high for her other books.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3kiuJ9F">The French Girl</a> is available to purchase through the link below</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B0771VXLVZ&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="104" height="160" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B0771VXLVZ&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" width="104" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Lexie Elliott's other novel is <a href="https://amzn.to/2Tgj1Ap">The Missing Years</a> please find a link below</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07FN77J4Q&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="104" height="160" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07FN77J4Q&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" width="104" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Annette Revitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18334723891446484364noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595212198589489399.post-68913726992759506742020-10-13T10:58:00.009+00:002023-07-12T21:23:07.893+00:00Art and Soul by Claire Huston<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1591512102l/53876689._SY475_.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="306" src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1591512102l/53876689._SY475_.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-uk.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=nett16-21&language=en_GB&l=li3&o=2&a=B084GTQD29" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3jVWcgS">Art and Soul by Claire Hustson</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">My rating: ★★★★★ </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Goodreads: 4.20/5</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Genre: Contemporary Romance.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was given the wonderful opportunity to read Claire Huston's debut novel in return for my honest review. <a href="https://amzn.to/3jVWcgS">Art and Soul</a> was self published in April 2020 and is available in <a href="https://amzn.to/310ksap">paperback</a> or <a href="https://amzn.to/3jVWcgS">ebook</a> – FREE with Kindle unlimited at the moment, click <a href="https://amzn.to/3jVWcgS">HERE</a> for a link to make a purchase.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: center;"><u><span style="font-family: georgia;">Synopsis</span></u></h3><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3jVWcgS">Art and Soul</a> is the story of struggling single mother Becky Watson who longs to revive her career as a life-fixer, working miracles to solve her clients’ problems, no matter how big or small. writing. I started when I was 12 and just felt like I was supposed to. I know
that sounds weird, but it was more of a compulsion than a desire at first. I
started a novel the first time when I was in high school, but I didn’t finish
it, and for a while I stopped writing altogether as I was focused on other
things. The first novel I finished was started when I was 29.</span></span></span></div><div style="margin-left: 18pt; text-align: center;"><span style="mso-bookmark: _Hlk46483443;"><span style="color: black; line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>

where the ideas came from. But I can tell you that my second novel, The Rift
Between Us, was inspired by conversations with my mother expressing her worries
to me that my siblings and I might drift apart someday. My Mother is aware she
was my inspiration and the book is dedicated to her for that reason.</span></span></span></div>

Their father warns them that someday they will need one another. When he dies suddenly, they learn that he intends to make sure that they do. He’s left them a substantial inheritance, far more than any of them ever imagined. There’s just one catch. If they want the money, they will have to spend two weeks together at a secluded lake house and follow all of their father’s instructions—no matter how strange.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1949498034&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett16-21&language=en_GB" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="104" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1949498034&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett16-21&language=en_GB" /></a></div></div><span style="font-weight: bold;"><div style="text-align: left;">Their task seems simple enough, but each one is holding onto painful secrets and old grudges the others know nothing about. read my own genre, women’s fiction (drama). I also like crime fiction and suspense.
I like romance if it is the sweet kind and as long as it doesn’t follow the
typical romance outline. Usually I prefer not to read books where romance is
the main story. I don’t usually read fantasy or sci-fi, but that is mostly
because I’m not really a visual thinker and I prefer that type of story in a
movie so I get the visual. I don’t think I have a favorite author and lately
I’ve been discovering that there are a lot of great authors out there that are
self-publishing like me and I’m trying to read more of their books.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></p>

The Commandant at Birkenau, Schwarzhuber, notices her long beautiful hair, and forces her separation from the other women prisoners. Cilka learns quickly that power, even unwillingly given, equals survival.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">After liberation, Cilka is charged as a collaborator by the Russians and sent to a desolate, brutal prison camp in Siberia known as Vorkuta, inside the Arctic Circle.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Innocent, imprisoned once again, Cilka faces challenges both new and horribly familiar, each day a battle for survival. Cilka befriends a woman doctor, and learns to nurse the ill in the camp, struggling to care for them under unimaginable conditions. And when she tends to a man called Alexandr, Cilka finds that despite everything, there is room in her heart for love.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><u>My Review</u></span></h3><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">After reading <a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">The Tattooist of Auschwitz</a>, I was intrigued to find out what happened to Cilka. Well this certainly answered my questions that I was left with. It could be read as a stand-alone book but as a second book in a series it works well to.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Its historical fiction based around a real person’s life, made from documentary research and with the help of those who knew her e.g. Lale (<a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">The Tattooist of Auschwitz</a>) the author tells <a href="https://amzn.to/3jeuWtT">Cilka’s Journey</a>. It explores her selflessness and guilt whilst highlighting the cruelty and suffering that she and her friends went through.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book I felt was a slower pace than <a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">The Tattooist of Auschwitz</a>, but it certainly didn’t affect what the author was trying to portray. The horrors that were endured and the friendships that were made make for a captivating but tragic tale of survival. It is just utterly heart breaking to think that this actually happened and that these people had to live and survive through such times. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Although <a href="https://amzn.to/3jeuWtT">Cilka's Journey</a> covers some dark disturbing times in history it was an easy read, those horrific times were contrasted with the strength and survival of the characters and I struggled to put it down. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I believe I said this about <a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">the Tattooist of Auschwitz</a> but this book will stay with me for quite a while and really puts your own life into perspective.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3jeuWtT">Cillka's Journey</a> is available to purchase <a href="https://amzn.to/3jeuWtT">here </a> at amazon</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07N7HSMZZ&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="104" height="160" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07N7HSMZZ&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" width="104" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">The Tattooist of Auschwitz</a> is available to purchase <a href="https://amzn.to/3n1lUTd">here</a> at amazon</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B074CG2SGV&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="160" data-original-width="104" height="160" src="https://ws-eu.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B074CG2SGV&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=GB&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nett0e-21&language=en_GB" width="104" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Annette Revitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18334723891446484364noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595212198589489399.post-43735749897756621372020-09-22T10:21:00.009+00:002023-07-12T21:12:47.893+00:00Book Review - The Wish in Irish Falls by Jen Gilroy<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1596640688i/54825587._UY480_SS480_.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="480" src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1596640688i/54825587._UY480_SS480_.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/32TOmi2">A Wish in Irish Falls by Jen Gilroy</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">My rating:★★★★★</div><div style="text-align: center;">Goodreads: 4.67/5</div><div style="text-align: center;">Genre: women’s fiction, romance</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/32TOmi2">The Wish in Irish falls</a> was released on 16th September and is available as an <a href="https://amzn.to/32TOmi2">ebook</a>. Synopsis </u></h3><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">When you wish on a wishing tree, you don’t always get what you want. If you’re very lucky, you get something even better . . . </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">When Tara Lynch’s husband was killed on military duty, her happily ever after died too. Although she still wishes on her hometown wishing tree, she’s no longer certain it makes dreams come true. All Tara wants is to somehow move forward without the love and family of her own she’d counted on. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Walker Cavanagh’s the new veterinarian in town. After his fiancée’s death in a car accident he’s sure was his fault, he won’t get close to another woman to get hurt, or hurt her. As for wishes, they won’t bring back his lost love. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yet, as Tara and Walker work together on a fundraising event to train service dogs for veterans, they find they have more in common than they think—and are soon more than a little hot and bothered. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">With some wishing tree magic, can Tara and Walker face their biggest fears and open their hearts to each other . . . and find a new beginning in Irish Falls?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: center;"><u>My Review </u></h3><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have read <a href="https://amzn.to/32TOmi2">The Wish in Irish Falls</a> as a stand alone as I did not know at the time, it was the second book of the series called Wishing Tree. It works well as a stand alone but now I’m intrigued to read the first book <a href="https://amzn.to/35TEUNv">The Wishing Tree in Irish Falls</a> as its about characters I have been introduced to already.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/32TOmi2">A Wish in Irish Falls</a> captivated me from the first chapter, it took me on this emotional rollercoaster ride right from the word go, as the characters trudge through their grief, find unexpected love that eventually leads to second chances all with the help of there family, friends and the wishing tree.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">It was full to the brim with emotion, packed with loveable characters and oozing with a magical air, small town charm, family and friendships.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I’ve come away from this book, wanting this fictional place to be real so I could go and visit. I want to walk down the street to the bakery, try Tara's tarts and make a wish at the spectacular wishing tree. Maybe even stop for a cuppa with Kathleen Byrne. </div><div><div style="text-align: center;">This heart-warming book is well worth a read. Now that Lily has gone, it's up to Teddy to talk some sense into Lottie.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">With the help of Arjun, Geoffrey and Howard, the elderly reprobates who make up his Gin O'Clock Club, Teddy makes a plan to help Lottie find her way back to the things that really matter - family, friendship and love. I had never come across Rosie Blake before but it certainly sounded like a book I would enjoy. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></span><span style="font-family: georgia;"><div style="text-align: center;">The Gin O'Clock Club is a real, feel good heart warming read. It transported you into Lottie's turbulent life, letting you feel all the emotions she was going through. You felt the love and warmth of her friends and family to the hate and guilt she was trudging through. This book makes you reflect on your own life, family and friends. I fell in love with all the characters and felt drawn into their lives right from the word go. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I only gave it four stars as near the beginning, I felt like the descriptions and scene setting was a bit repetitive but, once it got going this improved and I was hooked.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading other titles from this author. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Thank you Little, Brown Book Group UK and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this wonderful book.</div></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Annette Revitthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18334723891446484364noreply@blogger.com0
